On 18 July 2018, we commemorated and celebrated Nelson Mandela’s contribution to the struggle for democracy and equality.
In light of #67minutes for Mandela Day, we’re dropped off a compilation of clothes and toiletries contributed by our staff at the Adonis Musati Project in Wynberg.
To celebrate and pay tribute to Nelson Mandela, who fought tirelessly for equality, we also decided to give back to the young females who’ll be our leaders of tomorrow.
Research has shown that girls who are unable to afford sanitary products are forced to seek unhygienic alternatives or miss school due to menstruation. On average they miss out on approximately 3 – 4 days of learning, which adds up to a rough 35 days missed per year.

To push the initiative, we recently visited the Silikamva High School to hand over a generous donation of sanitary pads that was distributed to the girls.
In the words of the late Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and to translate this statement, we want to invest in equal opportunities for female learners.
With our donation, we aim to give back at least 67 minutes of learning to girls so they don’t have to miss out on school because it is “that time of the month.”
Our SupportStars also took it upon themselves to reach out to our immediate community. They prepared some sandwiches that they distributed to the homeless during their lunch break.
With the incredible power to improve our own lives and those of everyone around us through our actions, let’s use that power for good!
