In honour of Mandela Day, the SweepSouth team dedicated our efforts to making a meaningful impact within the community. On this special day, the team gathered together with a shared goal: to bring love, hope and nourishment to those in need.
The initiative focused on packaging and assembling Jars of Hope, each packed to provide wholesome meals for up to four people. These jars, filled with essential ingredients such as rice, soup mix, lentils and soup powder, were all prepared by the team.
Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s powerful words, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made in the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead,” our team dedicated 67 minutes to this cause. Each jar we packaged was not just a collection of ingredients but a symbol of hope, compassion, and unity.
As we distribute these Jars of Hope, we aim to carry forward Nelson Mandela’s legacy, embodying the spirit of Ubuntu – I am because we are. Every action, no matter how small, contributes to building a better tomorrow. We are guided by principles of compassion and solidarity, striving to make a positive difference in our world.
If you’d like to join us in creating these jars at home or, here’s how you can do it:
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 Cup rice
- 1 Cup soup mix
- 1 Cup lentils
- 1 Unwrapped stock cube
- 1 Packet soup powder
METHOD:
- Boil 2 litres of water on the stove
- Add jar contents
- Keep stirring until thickened, and enjoy!
Join us in celebrating Mandela Day not just today, but every day, by finding ways to uplift and support those around us. Together, we can make a day, change a life, and inspire a brighter future for all – one jar of hope at a time.
