Mother’s Day is about honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers (and motherly figures) in society but in our case it is also about celebrating and rewarding our SweepStars (the women on our platform) who form part of an industry that is often unrecognised.
This May we’re treating our SweepStars to exciting experiences and spoiling them with various prizes. Two lucky SweepStars will each be enjoying return flights, to anywhere in South Africa, proudly sponsored by FlySafair.
This prize is aimed at connecting SweepStars with their moms that may live too far away to see regularly – a real wish come true!
Debra Sibanda, a Zimbabwean mother of one, relocated to Johannesburg back in 2011 in search of employment, along with two other goals in mind – one, which was to put her son in a good school back home and the other, to see her mom (in Cape Town) more often.
Debra and her mother have a very close relationship. Debra refers to her mom as a good friend, her shoulder to cry on and her teacher. The long distance though means that they only see each other once a year, sometimes only once every two years.
“Transport is expensive and the money I earn from working on the SweepSouth platform goes towards my monthly expenses and my son’s tuition.” says Debra “Thanks to SweepSouth, I am able to put my son through a good school and this year I can tick off another one of my wishes, which is to see my mom.”
Debra’s 14 year old son currently resides at a boarding school in Zimbabwe but she is able to see and spend time with him on school holidays.
Debra says; “I would like my mom to come and visit me because I do miss her a lot.” Lucky for her, we are able to assist with that, compliments of FlySafair who will be sponsoring a return flight for her mom to come and visit her anytime this year.
May is Mother’s month and we’re looking forward to making it one to remember for our SweepStars.
This lady worked for me one day and I was absolute impressed with her. She manage to clean the whole house in the hours requested. Shes polite, well groomed and punctual. Wish i can get her permanently.
Auh man, we love reading such good things about our SweepStars, Alet 😊
