How To Clean Shower Doors

Shower doors are different to shower curtains; curtains are plastic, easy to remove, and put in the washing machine when necessary. Shower doors are glass, meaning they need a bit more care. A wipe-down with a squeegee after every shower makes all the difference and keeps them clear. If you are in a rush, you probably don’t have the time to wipe down the shower doors, this results in hard soap scum and water spots. If you know how to clean a shower, then it only makes sense to clean the shower doors too. Read these 6 simple steps to clean shower doors the right way, and get your shower doors crystal clear and clean.

Cleaning Supplies:

  • Spray bottle
  • Squeegee
  • Microfiber cloth or sponge
  • Baking soda
  • Washing up liquid
  • White vinegar

Step 1: Create Cleaning Mixture

Make a cleaning solution for soap scum by pouring 2 parts white vinegar and 1 part washing up liquid into an empty spray bottle, and shake well. You can add 1 part of water if you like.

Step 2: Spray And Let Sit

Using the cleaning solution you just made, spray over the entire door. Be sure to spray all corners and crevices of the shower door. Leave the cleaning mixture to sit on your shower door for at least 30 minutes or until the soap scum starts to break down.

Step 3: Scrub

After 30 minutes you can begin to scrub the shower doors, scrub until there is no soap scum remaining. Use a microfiber cloth or sponge to wipe off the cleaning mixture and residue from the shower doors.

Step 4: Use Baking Soda

If the white vinegar mixture doesn’t clean your shower doors properly, they may need to be scrubbed with a stronger cleaning agent. Baking soda is abrasive and can break down tough soap scum that vinegar may not. Simply dip a sponge into some baking soda and scrub at the soap scum, then wipe the residue from the shower doors with a microfibre cloth.

Step 5: Make It Shine

After wiping the shower doors free from soap scum and residue, you can make them look even cleaner by adding some shine. Use a commercial glass cleaner to spray the doors down, especially if there are streaks. Wipe the shower doors clean with a microfibre cloth.

Quick Tip To Keep Shower Doors Clean

For your shower doors to stay clean for longer, you should consider keeping a squeegee in the bathroom. Wipe down the shower doors with a squeegee after every shower from top to bottom, until the moisture from the glass is gone.
