Cleaning shower tiles is a task we often skip, it can seem difficult by the look of your tiles, especially if they are ceramic. Cleaning Shower Tiles With Vinegar:
- Start pre-treating the shower tiles by letting your shower run hot water or filling a bath with hot water for 10 minutes, to help loosen soap scum and residue. Close the bathroom door to keep the heat inside.
- Make a cleaning solution mixture with 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. Pour the mixture into an empty spray bottle.
- Spray the cleaning mixture onto your shower tiles, applying more of the spray to dirtier areas.
- Leave the cleaning solution to sit on your tiles for up to 30 minutes, depending on how dirty your tiles are.
- With a hard bristle brush or grout brush, scrub at the soap scum until it starts to soften and lift away from the tiles and grout.
- Turn the shower on, or with a bucket, rinse the scrubbed shower tiles with warm water. Make sure all of the soap scum and cleaning mixture is gone.
Cleaning shower Tiles With Baking Soda:
- Create a baking soda paste by mixing 3 parts baking soda with 1 part water, mix in a bowl until you have a thick pasty texture. If your tiles have tough soap scum and stains, you can substitute half of the water with hydrogen peroxide. You can also simply use tile cleaner if you want to.
- Apply a generous amount of paste to a sponge, and spread the paste all over the tiles. Make sure to apply the paste in between the tiles and on soap scum and stains.
- While the baking soda is still on the tiles, spray the tiles with vinegar. The vinegar will react with the baking soda, fizz or bubble, and break down soap scum.
- Scrub the tiles with a stiff bristle brush in circular motions, making sure to apply pressure when scrubbing mildew and tough soap scum or stains. You can use an old toothbrush for crevices.
- Pour water from a bucket to rinse the tiles, you may have to repeat this up to 3 times.
- Dry your tiles with a clean towel. Drying your tiles will prevent water from making puddles in corners and crevices, preventing the growth of mildew and mould.
